Question
What about Modells? BTW the closest running specialty store is like 15 miles away and I'm not willing to go that far. Please Help! I need new running shoes since spring track practice starts next month! And how much does a good pair of running shoes cost? My limit is $60.
Answer
Go to the specialty running store in your area. 15 miles is a short distance for the investment in getting the right shoe. These stores generally are run by and hire experienced runners who know running/racing. Sporting goods stores are hit-and-miss as to whether the person has the "been-there, done-that" experience that will put YOU in the right shoe. They may be well-meaning individuals, but that isn't what you want from an expert. You want expertise/experience. A good running store wants to build a long-term relationship with runners and make you a repeat customer. They can only do that (and compete with the bigger stores) by giving you top quality advice and put you in the right shoe. They will evaluate your gait, pace, running style and intended goals/plans for the track season. They will want to see your foot (especially your arch) and asses other physical characteristics. Bring in your current running shoes. They can evaluate the type of wear pattern your shoes show to determine the right shoe for you as well. A lot of people run/race in the wrong shoe. Take the time and do it right, and your $60 will be wisely invested and not wasted
